"Kau Low" ("The Day After Tomorrow")
There's just something about disaster films I can't quite shake. Maybe because most of them rely on plots so farfetched they couldn't possibly happen. Or maybe it's the allure of seeing famous monuments like the White House or the Las Vegas strip being decimated. Or maybe it's because, at this exact moment, on some basic service cable channel (most likely one owned by Ted Turner), "The Poseidon Adventure" is playing.
The point is there's something mesmerizing about disaster films, which is why this illustration was fun. I went through a dozen ideas to draw, from tornados to earthquakes to Kansas houses being sent up into the sky - and narrowed it down visually to a few items best associated with the Roland Emmerich directed flick. But I had to throw a flying tire in there. The tire was a request from Tony (an obvious reference to "Twister"). He made it abundantly clear I had to include a tire in there. The jerk even pulled the "I'm dying of cancer so this might be the last thing I ever ask of you" card on me. So, yeah, there's a tire. - Jake
