"Dino" ("Jurassic Park 3")
As you've probably read a couple of time now, a lot of planning (and mistakes) went into this initial year. We kicked around some ideas on how we were going to individually handle each film. But when it came to "Jurassic Park 3", a film both of us were really looking forward to, we had to make it a collaboration. So, in the beginning of May I penciled the picture, and as a true butt-hole artist, didn't give Tony the page until just two weeks prior of the deadline to ink and color. I have no excuse.
Historically this is the first picture in the gallery where Tony inked over my pencils. I think you could ask any artist and they'll probably say how interesting it is to see work you've done get finalized in a different manner than you originally created. I could immediately see things Tony altered for the better which never occurred to me before. For example, the way Tony rearranged how Erik and Kari are standing. I had them crouched down a little as if they were trying to hide. But if you're out in the open and right next to a dinosaur, it's more likely you'd be standing straight up in fear or in the process of running. Likewise, his decision to scrap my background and draw a more jungle atmosphere instead. The puddle on the ground with the reflection of the moon was a nice touch. - Jake
