"First Sketch - 1988"
The drawing that started it all.
It was 1989 and I was a Junior High geek coming up with all sorts of weird comic book characters. In fact, that was the name of my company: Weird Studios. Every day I'd hang out with my friend Bill Salisbury, who also had dreams of making comics as well as cartoons. Between the two of us, we had some pretty crazy ideas.
The first "Batman" movie was out in theaters and after seeing it with Bill, it got me thinking about how funny some the scenes were (and I'm not talking about the Joker). Rubber suits, cliqued dialogue... it was easy for me to get wrapped up in it. But I still wondered what would really happen if all that took place in the real world.
So I started working on an every-man hero. Someone who wasn't that special, not too skilled, and only made good intentions to motivate his crusade. A guy who'd go against the grim heroes of the world.
Someone like Erik.
