Strider from "Lord Of The Rings"

"Lord Of The Rings" is (c) J.R.R. Tolkien and New Line Cinema

The last in the "Face-Off" entries, I drew this in homage to the then-released 2nd chapter of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, The Two Towers. Originally our plan was to just devote this month to Gollum, but I was never able to completely draw this character to my satisfaction. I KNOW that the purpose of the gallery was the challenge of drawing new characters. I just didn't want to post what I knew was going to be a sub-par drawing so I changed the rules a bit just to suit me. I'm allowed, I'm a co-editor for crying out loud!
Instead I chose one of my favorite characters of the trilogy, Aragorn. I liked this character in the books, but the film version, brought to life by Viggo Mortensen, really made me love the character (but in that non-homosexual way, not that there is anything wrong with that...). He is noble and smart, able to handle a sword and take down an army of Orcs. And on top of all of that he is an expert tracker, able to read the signs of those he pursues in order to follow a trail. And his role in the final book/movie is that of pure heroism. Just wait and see.
While we decided that we were just going to do the characters, whether from the film or the book, I decided that since the film version is such a perfect representation of Aragorn I would use that as my model. Once again I didn't try to make the drawing look like Viggo, just matched the physical model. I think it turned out pretty well, especially the clothes, which I drew entirely from memory without an ounce of source material to look at. I think it came out looking pretty well. Pretty well indeed.
Oh, and just to point out? Jake never did do a picture for this month! - Tony
