"So, What Do You Little Manaics Want to Do First?" ("Weird Science")

This illustration started back in the mid 2000's when Tony and I were thinking of ways to expand the Blockbuster Gallery outside the summer months. One idea we liked was having little sub-movie galleries ("spin-offs" if you will) where we would tackle a specific franchise or director like the Universal Monsters or Quentin Tarantino and casually do a specific set of homages. No forced deadlines. No going in order. We would just pick someone or something from cinema and leisurely go from there.
For our first subject, we decided on the filmography of John Hughes.
We had his directorial efforts split up evenly. Tony wanted to oversee "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" and "The Breakfast Club" whereas I claimed "Uncle Buck", "Sixteen Candles" and, as you can see, "Weird Science". We weren't sure if we wanted to handle "Curly Sue" and "She's Having a Baby" but if we decided in the future to add in his writing and producing works, Tony automatically called dibs on "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation."
I honestly don't know why we didn't pursue it any further. I don't want to claim it was because Tony was constantly going through chemotherapy, or we were so exhausted after doing a three-month stint on the regular gallery we needed a ten-month break away from it. I really don't know the reasoning. All I can say for certain is Tony had finished the pencils on his "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" homage while I had my "Weird Science" pencils locked down but neither of us ever passed it off to the other to complete them.
Sixteen years later I chose to finish this piece which I guess is all right since Tony and I decided we were going to complete it at our leisure. - Jake
