"Second Guessing the Beholder" ("Snow White and the Huntsman")
When the news first broke Kristen Stewart was signed up to play Snow White in "Snow White and the Huntsman", I honestly gave her the benefit of the doubt. Sure, she mostly played brooding, emo females in previous roles but I thought perhaps this was the chance for her to expand her range; to show the world she could play more than one type of character. I mean, who thought when Tom Hanks started his career by wearing drag in "Bosom Buddies" he'd become one of the world's greatest actors? So although I didn't picture Bella Swan or the jerky sister from "Zathura" as a maiden fair, I was willing to put faith in Ms. Stewart's acting ability.
Ms. Stewart... would it have hurt you to smile more than twice in the movie?
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the film. I thought the story was good, Charlize Theron made a wonderful evil queen, and Chris Hemsworth expanded the role of the Huntsman more than one would assume. But Kristen Stewart was sadly miscast as the young woman who becomes the fairest of the land when she comes of age. Even when the woodland critters flock to her and the forest turns lush green right before her eyes, Kristen Stewart seemed like she was more interested in locating a razor blade so she could cut herself. And there's no reason for that. On the screen she was being worshipped as a god. Everyone loved her. Off screen she was sleeping with the director. No, seriously. She was sleeping with the director. It's what caused her and Robert Pattinson to eventually break up and crush the hears of millions of "Twilight" fans.
I wasn't looking for much. Just a sign that Kristen Stewart was more than a one-note actress. All she had to do was smile more often. Four more times at least.
*sigh* Oh well... it took Tom Hanks two decades before he won his first Oscar. I guess she still has time. - Jake
