"This Little Light of Mine" ("Batman Begins")

Batman (c) DC Comics/Warner Brothers

Pencil Marks: Every year I always tell Jake the same thing: "Dude (because I say 'dude' a lot), we've got to start drawing the Summer Blockbuster Gallery early, so we don't have any delays!" And Jake always replies the same way: "Indubitably" (because he thinks his brain is so big). I'll then sit down, draw up my first picture, hand it to my pal, and that's it. Nothing else happens... until that summer when we're both scrambling to get the rest of the gallery done and up in time.
But as I said, the exception is always that one picture; that piece when we get to take the week off. And 2005's 'early bird' was for "Batman Begins"; which I'm sure you've already guessed since I'm parlaying this amusing antidote in this rambling. This particular one was done back in January '05 and just sat around gathering dust-bunnies waiting to debut on June 18th. Neat huh?
I really didn't set out with any sort of goal in mind. It was just a spur of the moment thought. But as soon as I drew Erik, I knew I'd have to do the bat signal, and after that there would have to be a Batman, and well that's pretty much all I drew.
Admittedly I handed Jake this with no background, and not even an idea of what Erik was supposed to say. I commend my amigo for doing such a good job making this picture presentable. - Tony

Ink Smudges: There are some things which came out good; and then there's some which came out bad. But all things considered, this is a rather good effort. I wanted to keep Tony's cartoonish aspects intact since this picture is just one big gag. And I was happy to see the lines are still clear even with the various shades of gray this picture required. But what I'm most proud of is how I managed to get the lighting effect for the signal without obscuring any area around both figures with reflection dots.
Oh, and Tony's a liar. He didn't hand this to me in January. He handed this to me in February. - Jake
