"My Little Pony - OF DEATH!" ("Kingdom Of Heaven")


Pencil Marks: I knew Tony would complain, but in my defense when it came to ideas, I was running on empty. I mean, what made "Kingdom of Heaven" so different than "Troy", "Alexander" or any of the other boring 'historical' motion pictures which came out in 2004? Granted, "Alexander" had Angelina Jolie's believable role as a diva who thought the world centered around her (quite the stretch) but unfortunately that didn't come out during the summer. So, I had to weigh what I already knew, which was simply Orlando Bloom in a serious 'We want an Oscar' movie about the crusades. Talk about a yawner. So, before my #2 lead pencil touched the 24# paper, I knew I was screwed.
When all was said and done, the only thing I had was Erik on a horse. After all the crap I had been giving Tony about his drawings leading up to this one, I was practically begging for a beating. It wasn't going to be pretty, people. He was going to bitch.

Ink Smudges: I bitched.
Let the court record state in the past I was accused of giving Jake simplistic drawings for him to complete. In fact, his number one complaint about the 'Hitchhikers Guide' picture was "Where's the background?", "Would it have killed you to add a bit more detail?" That is what I pretty much heard from my old friend. So you could say I received a twisted sort of satisfaction when he handed me his finished pencils for "Kingdom of Heaven". Just Erik and a horse. Nothing else. Perfect.
Then he had the audacity to draw chain-mail on him. Chain-mail. Does anyone realize how difficult it is to ink over chain-mail??? Each individual link? It wasn't until a half-hour of struggling with it, I threw my hands in the air and decided to find a pattern online to do a simple copy and paste job. That's okay though. It works out for the best.
Admittedly, it was not my best work, and for this gallery it really was one of the more generic pictures we posted. But you try to think of something which could go along with "Kingdom of Heaven" without making a Legolas suggestion. - Tony
