I wasn't going to do a picture based on "Stewart Little 2" because both Tony and I had a serious concern. The previous year we did an illustration based on the movie "Dr. Doolittle 2" where the two of us had made the cast into anthropomorphic creatures (like how Marvel created Peter Porker: The Amazing Spider-Ham). The response we received wasn't terrible so much as downright disturbing. You see, we had caught the attention of the furry community and, well, the moment we got some creepy erotic fan art, our illustration for "Dr. Doolittle 2" immediately came down.
So rather than risking poking that bear again (pun intended) I just took a step back and let the chips fall where they may to do a picture not involving any animals. And from all my sketching, this picture came about.
Other than the slight nod of Sehera's little girl who goes against the angry dogs, our homage is as G-rated as I can get. It's innocent and, with a little bit of luck, doesn't attract the attention of other unsettling genre communities. - Jake
