"Earth Vs. That Thing" ("Men in Black 2")

When I was brainstorming on ideas for "Men in Black 2", my esteemed co-hort suggested doing a parody of my own work. What he had in mind was taking the picture I drew for "Evolution" and having an angry alien leaping straight toward Erik who shot another alien moment prior. Sort of a Deja Vu thing. I gave it a go but after a few attempts I waved my white flag. The whole thing felt like one big cheat. All I had to do was trace over the original and touch it up. A ten-minute job at most. Plus, in the original picture Erik was firing a laser gun because the alien had shot one of his own species first. Having Erik pull his holster offensively rather than in defense was something different. He's not Han Solo (and yes, I am a firm believer Han shot first; Special Editions be damned.)
Of course, years later I'd homage a picture Tony did for "Pirates of the Caribbean" twice so this whole argument has just been thrown out of the window.
Nevertheless, instead of plagiarizing myself, I had another thought. "Men In Black" is about weird cheesy aliens; the kind of monsters you'd see in those campy 50's horror films (especially ones which appeared on MST3k, Svengoolie, Elvira, and so on.) And what better way to represent that level of low budget cinematic imagery than your typical B-movie poster.
Although I wish the alien's silhouette showed up better and the background was more defined, I can't deny this is still a particularly good piece. The goal was to achieve the look of a Saturday Matinee poster and by jove, I think that's how it came out. - Jake
