"Past the Edge" ("Enough")
Sehera is a terrific artist with gifts I envy. Every time I collaborated with her, I felt honored (truthfully, I feel honored by any collaborator I work with.) I am a huge fan of her work and admire the unique style she projects in all her illustrations. And it is this unique style I want to point out.
You see, I never envisioned my friend inking a picture like this. Her style is more surreal, Steve Ditko-ish and otherworldly. Whenever I showed her sketches I penciled, she would snatch them from my hands and put her own spin on them; as if dipping my pictures into a vat of psychedelic ink. But "Past the Edge" didn't seem like her cup of tea. Not only was it grounded in tone with a woman kicking a punching bag but left little room for her to play off her strengths. There was nothing 'cosmic' about a dirty gym locker room.
As it turned out, I was mistaken. She did an amazing job.
Studying it closely, I see certain areas which would have looked stupid if I had inked this myself. However, the most improved aspect, and one Sehera is solely responsible for, is the proportions on Kari. This may very well be the only illustration in the entire gallery where the female form is depicted accurately. - Jake
