This is a pretty weird picture for me because it reminded me instantly of the cover to "Action Comics" # 300 that appears to this right of this rambling. Actually, one would say by comparing it that it's heavily based on that cover. As you can see, Superman stands on the edge of a deserted town looking as downtrotten and sad as Erik does in Tony's version. Both have a huge red sun in the background; the Superman version's even reads: "Captive of the Red Sun". Tony's picture is called "The End of Plight?" while the other has the Man of Steel sadly announcing there's not another human being left on Earth. And as you can see, both images are absolutely powerful. So for a homage, I think Tony's picture does it justice.
But fact is, it's not a homage because when he did it, Tony had never even seen this cover!
I don't know if it's just a matter of coinicidence, or perhaps Tony DID see the cover sometime in his life and just subconciously remembered it. He didn't plagarize it - that I know for sure. But there you see it clear as day: two pictures so similar that you can't help but wonder if there's something unnatural at work here.
Of course, one thing that can be proven for sure: I remember some really stupid stuff, like an obscure Superman cover.
Other than that (and for shame for thinking I'm purposely rambling on so this text matches up to the size of the image) I can't help but imagine what it would look like if Tony took this unintentional homage all the way through and also did a picture based on the other tale in this comic book: Supergirl and her fantastic Super-Horse.
