"Erik the Alpha Male" ("Lords of Dogtown")

Pencil Marks: Sometimes a movie gets released with a 'duh' title when it comes to our gallery. "Lords of Dogtown" was one of them. I mean, it's called Dogtown... so shouldn't it be full of dog people? I mean, c'mon here; I'm not even trying! Now usually Jake and I try to steer clear from the obvious take and try something different, but since we were facing a major deadline this week, I had to take the easy way out. Sorry.
So seeing as how the film was about the rise of trick skateboarding (now more known thanks to Tony Hawk, than Stacy Pierra who this movie is based on), I felt I had to include some sort of skating in the picture. And that aspect turned out pretty well, even though I did resort to my clique "Erik on the right/bad guy on the left" motif. So while in the end it really isn't that great of a picture, it is pretty good for a rush job. - Tony

Ink Smudges: We almost didn't have this one up on time. The night before I was getting this ready to copy onto disc (so that I could later download it on Tony's computer), I opened the file... and saw everything screwed up. I don't know how it happened but somehow between coloring the pic and saving it, the data got corrupted. Sections were blurred out, there was a thick black line streaking across, and the color was all screwed up. And since it took me a couple of days just to ink and color it, needless to say I was pretty ticked off. So before I tackled it again, I thought I should cool down first and just watch some television.
I'm glad I did because a documentary on the making of the movie was on at the time. They were interviewing the skaters the film was based upon and among all the cool bits of information, I found out the original book was written out by free-hand on lined paper. And as the saying goes: when you have lemons, you make lemonade. - Jake
