"Monster Hunter E" ("Van Helsing")
"Monster Hunter E" began one of the hardest task I've ever had to do on this website: to illustrate each picture for the 2004 gallery all by myself (aside from the occasional help on colors from Tony who took a year sabbatical) and do it on a consist weekly basis. I didn’t quite succeed my goal but by the time August was over, I had completed 11 entries which is not bad. Not bad at all.
But enough with the behind the scenes stuff: let's just get to talking about the picture itself.
You can't imagine how relieved I was when this summer's movie season didn't begin with a Marvel Comics film. Instead it was almost like Tony and I were being rewarded for all the frustration we had to put up with the beginning of the past two years. Praise Stephen Sommers that film # 1 would involve a supernatural hunter taking on classic movie monsters. No brain-storming necessary: Erik versus Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolfman. The idea almost draws itself. That, my friends, is what the monks call karma.
To make it more of a challenge though, I attempted to capture the likenesses of Lou Chaney, Bela Legosi, and Boris Karloff. But as you see, I only managed to get two out of the three. Basically. But things still came out looking good, and Tony did an outstanding job on colors that I really have no complaints. - Jake
