"Puffy, Powerpuff, and Plight" ("Powerpuff Girls")

Powerpuff Girls and Mojo Jojo (c) Cartoon Network
Little Girl and Angry Dogs (c) Sehera

I can't help but laugh over this illustration based on the Powerpuff Girls Movie. It's true Blossom, Buttercup, Blossom, and Mojo Jojo are present but are they really? Is this is a fair representation of a 70 minute film riding on the popularity of Cartoon Network's highest rated program in 2002? Does this piece accurately captures the fun-loving, brightly colored, sugary sweet tone of the cartoon series? Giant dogs with huge fangs and drooling blood? Nuclear warheads aimed at teddy bears and pooping Chicken McNugget shaped birds? Chibi Erik? Is this is the best we could do?
Yes. Yes it is.
From the moment we brainstormed on ideas, Sehera and I never set out to match the look of the show; we tried to match the spirit. If you've ever watched an episode of the girl's adventures in the city of Townsville, you'll know part of the appeal is the absurd villains and monsters the girls go up against. A diabolical monkey with a huge head, a feminine devil in high heels by the name of "Him", a disco Boogeyman who has to get 'Scissors on the horn' before he struts off the dance floor to wreak havok. The Powerpuff Girls not only embrace the bizarre, it practically does a belly flop into a lake of it. And that's why I feel this picture was a win. The more strange we pushed it, the better.
I should point out those blood drooling canines are actually the main antagonists of Sehera's own comic: "Little Girl and Angry Dogs". So when you factor her characters are appearing with my own character who are appearing with characters created by Craig McCracken - you could say this is a cross-over within a cross-over within a cross-over featured in a drawing based on a movie based on a cartoon
Did I mention we were aiming for the absurd? - Jake
