"Sticky Situation" ("Spider-Man")
The first Blockbuster Gallery was, in my opinion, a great success. Not only did we complete what we set out to do, but we also did it while improving our skills. Looking back on our previous artwork, I saw a lot of things I liked, but also a lot of things I wanted to change. There is no greater critic than the artist himself. And one of the things I wanted to see done, and something that Jake succeeded in with a few of his pieces, was an "expansion" of the idea of drawings based on the huge movies of the summer. I had numerous pictures of Plight as if he were "in" the movie, but none really that had the movie in the Plight universe. And that brings us to "Sticky Situations".
I sat down and thought if there was a character in the Plight world named "Spiderman", what would he look like? It was sort of like the "Just Imagine Stan Lee Creating..." comic book series for DC. I have always been fascinated by half human-half beast creatures such as Centaurs and Minotaurs, and since I've never actually seen a "spider-man" I thought what the hell. Do I think the piece is the best I've ever done? No, not really. In fact looking at it now, it seems kind of bare. But I like the Spider-man and I think he came out better than I had imagined. - Tony
