"Thumpetty Thump Thump"
Christmas 2009
This is all Neil Patrick Harris' fault.
Weeks before Christmas, Tony sat me down in front of his computer to play a video he found on YouTube. It turns out somebody in marketing for CBS came up with a far-out idea. The channel owned the rights to the Rankin/Bass "Frosty the Snowman" television specials and one of their more popular shows they were producing at the time was "How I Met Your Mother", which featured the sleezy foul-mouth Barney Stinson played by Neil Patrick Harris.
For two minutes I watched clips of Frosty speaking as Barney Stinson going on about donating his porn collection, a state-of-the-art bullwhip, and how he'd do a woman anywhere, anyplace, regardless of who was watching. Two minutes the most vulgar things you could say on regulated television. And the montage ended with a message that some classics should remain untouched along with "How I Met Your Mother - Monday nights on CBS". Yes Virgina, it was an actual commercial!
It was shocking. And it was genius.
Now after all the description I just gave, this drawing is pretty tame. But I just wanted to explain where the idea originated from. If it sucks, you can just blame it all on NPH. - Jake
