Steven Sanchez
Kari Sketch # 2

Shortly after doing the first pencil sketch for me, Steven surprised me by taking another crack at Kari and trying to improve upon what he previously did. And because it was all in the name of fun, he took the opportunity to stray out of his comfort zone a little as well. For an experiment, certain things were drawn slightly differently than how he would normally illustrate. The result: another incredible picture and an example of an artist trying to reinvent himself which I found to be extremely fasinating. (A few people give him good-nature ribbing most of his females all look alike. Steven's response is they all come from the same mother.)
But it wasn't the end of the experiment. After his work was done, Steven threw down the challenge to myself (or anyone else) of coloring it; a task extremely hard to me since to this day I don't know how to use layers in Photoshop. Yet if he was willing to stray from his comfort zone, in the spirit of it all I could do the same. Little did I realize it would be a project I'd dabble with for the next two months. But once it was 'done', it turned out to be one of the best coloring jobs I even produced.
As I said in the previous rambling, Steven's work can be found on his great online portfolio and at his production website at onixan.com. Both of them are definately worth checking out! - Jake
